Frequently asked questions

FAQs

You have q's, we have a's.
How does MRW work?
MRW is a Mac App that uses Apple's Core Media technology to act as a virtual camera for all your meetings. Once installed, all your video apps (Zoom, Hangouts, etc) will recognize MRW as a camera. Once selected, you can use the MRW app to put GIFs, emojis, text stickers & more on top of your video feed for all of your friends and coworkers to see.
How do I play a GIF, emoji, or text sticker?
Once permissions are granted and you are referencing MRW Camera in your meeting tool, simply find the perfect GIF, emoji, or text sticker. According to your Quick Settings, the media will play on your video feed for the selected playback duration (default: 5 seconds).

Clicking "Hide" will pull the media from your media feed incase you aren't happy with your selection or your point was made.
What are the "Quick Settings"?
MRW Quick Settings are how content is displayed on your video feed. They can be accessed in the main MRW app or the shortcut app.

Camera = the camera source you'd like MRW to use
Location = where media is played on your screen (default: full screen)
Opacity = the transparency of your media (default: 100%)
Playback Duration = how long media plays on your video feed (default: 5 seconds)
Do I need to grant special permissions for MRW to access my camera?
Yes, after downloading MRW, you'll be asked to grant to load a new system extension. This is needed to create the MRW camera on your computer.

1. When you open MRW for the first time, click on "Open System Settings".

2. This will take you to Privacy & Security, where you will see a request to allow MRW to load the camera. Click "Allow"
How do I get the MRW camera to work in Zoom, Hangouts, or Microsoft Teams?
First, tell MRW which camera source (either built-in camera, continuity camera, or USB camera) you'd like MRW to use.

Then, when in your meeting tool of choice (ex: Zoom), click on the video source and select MRW Camera.
How much does it cost?
MRW is free for now. We have no serious plans to start charging for the base version of MRW. See more here.
Can I turn my camera off while keeping the app open?
